To get highly skilled at controlling your class you must do a few things. The first thing is to master at your own class and there is only one way of doing that - play it like you mean it. Log several pugs until you know every trick that your class has available.
When you feel confident with your class it is time to start learning! Boring but oh so necessary. Knowing your enemies spells better than they do is key to getting an advantage. When faced with a Warlock that knows all your spells it comes down to whom can counter the other player best.
In raids you do well be very familiar with your class to the fullest but also what and the reason why the other classes are doing what they are doing. Communicating with to your class leader and most of all asking your class leader questions is a good technique of getting to know your class to the fullest.
Most important in raiding is controlled temper and if you become good at that as a individual you will quickly advance in your guild ranks.
